In the ancient Tamil country of the far south , as its early literature also reveals , various gods are represented as presiding over different tracts of the country , namely , the hilly , the sylvan or pastoral , the riverine or agricultural , the desert or arid zones , and the littoral or seaside . तमिलनाड़ु के धुर दक्षिण में , जैसा कि वहां के साहित्य से भी पता चलता है , विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में विभिन्न देवताओं का प्राधन्य था-पहाड़ी , घास के मैदान , नदी घाटी क्षेत्र , कृषि क्षेत्र , समुद्र तट तथा बंजर प्रदेश के अलग-अलग देवता थे .
